Checking Him Out review
Debbie McGowan is a new author to me and I downloaded this book as a freebie, so I was a bit wary but…wow! What a story! It made me feel lots of emotions—happiness, sadness, anger, fear—my handkerchief was soaked with tears at the end of it. A new favourite author for me.
The story starts out giving the impression of a light hearted comedy of errors but what an emotional punch it packs. The main character, Sol, seems uptight and nervy, but slowly and gradually you realise something awful and dark happened to him once, which caused him to shut down. When he meets the man at the checkout will it start him on his path to redemption, or total breakdown?
Checking Him Out is a very good illustration of the point—homophobia is wrong. Love is love and that is what matters.
